Tango alternatives for how-to videos

Tango makes step-by-step guides and in-app guidance that walks someone through your product from inside it. People look for a Tango alternative when the walkthrough has to work outside the product — in an email, a launch post, a knowledge base — where in-app guidance can't reach, and where a narrated video with a written guide beside it does the job on its own.

Prefer the row-by-row version? stepvideo vs Tango.

Before the list

First: should you actually leave Tango?

Tango is a step-by-step guide and in-app guidance tool. There are jobs it does better than anything below, and if you recognise yourself on the left, the cheapest alternative is the one you already have.

Stay with Tango if…

  • You want to guide users live inside your own app while they work. stepvideo doesn't do in-app guidance at all.
  • Written guides with automatic screenshots and redaction are the whole requirement.
  • You're documenting desktop software — Tango's paid plans include a desktop app.
  • Tango's Pro team seat is $15–20/month, below stepvideo's entry price for text-first work.

Look for an alternative if…

  • The walkthrough has to work outside your product — in an email, a help centre, a launch post — where in-app guidance can't reach.
  • You want narration and zooms, not screenshots with callouts.
  • You need the video and the doc as one job rather than two tools.

The list

8 Tango alternatives for how-to videos

Coming from Tango, the question every card has to answer is where the walkthrough will live: in-app guidance is Tango's, and none of the tools below replace it. Read the cards for what they hand you to send — a link, an MP4, a guide — and check 'How you capture' for whether a desktop app is still on offer, because Tango's paid plans include one.

Ours first — it's our site — then the rest, closest to Tango first. Every other card quotes that company's own pricing or product page as of 15 August 2026, and links to the row-by-row comparison it was written from.

Questions

Leaving Tango, answered plainly

Can stepvideo replace Tango's in-app guidance?

No. stepvideo makes a video and a guide you send people; it never overlays steps on your live product, and no tool on this list does what Tango's in-app guidance does. If your users need to be walked through your own app while they work in it, that is Tango's category and the cheapest alternative is the plan you have.

Where do the videos go, if not inside my app?

Wherever a link or a file goes: a share page per render (public or unlisted by link), the MP4 itself in a help centre article, an email, a launch post or a knowledge base, and the written guide next to it. That is the case for switching — a walkthrough that has to work outside the product, where Tango's in-app guidance can't reach.

Tango has a free tier and a $20 seat — what am I paying more for?

The video. Tango's page lists a free tier and Pro at $20 a seat a month for teams; stepvideo has a 10-day free trial with 5 AI minutes, no card, and Creator is $29 a month for 3 seats. That buys 25 rendered minutes of narrated, captioned video with zooms placed from your clicks, which Tango's pricing page doesn't list. If the guide is enough, the cheaper tool is the right one.
