stepvideo vs Storylane

stepvideo.ioStorylane

Storylane is built for the sales motion: a clickable replica of your product, personalised per account, with lead capture and CRM integrations behind it. stepvideo is built for the teaching motion: a rendered video with zooms on the controls you clicked, narration per step, and a written guide. Picking the wrong category here costs more than picking the dearer tool.

No credit card needed — 5 AI video minutes, free for 10 days.

Before the table: when Storylane is the right call

Storylane is an interactive product demo platform for sales teams. There are jobs it does better than we do, and this is the list. If you recognise yourself on the right, we'd rather you went and used it than churned in month two.

Pick stepvideo when…

  • The viewer's next action is to do the thing themselves in the real product — watching a narrated walkthrough teaches a procedure faster than clicking a replica of it.
  • You need an MP4 and a written guide for a help centre, an onboarding email or a knowledge base.
  • One or two people make the content everyone else watches, and per-seat demo pricing doesn't fit that shape.
  • Your budget is a product-team budget, not a sales-tooling budget: their Growth tier lists $625 a month, $500 billed yearly.

The claims on our side are all specified. Read the edit rules

Pick Storylane when…

  • You are doing top-of-funnel sales demos, where letting a prospect drive the product converts better than a video of it.
  • You need the demo personalised per account — they list personalisation tokens, account reveal, and HubSpot, Salesforce and Zapier integrations by tier.
  • You want lead capture and custom lead forms attached to the demo itself.
  • You want AI video avatars with the demo; their plans list 20, 125 and 250 avatar minutes by tier.
  • Their free tier fits your pilot: 1 seat, 1 published demo, unlimited views, AI voiceovers included.

What you get

One take. Three things to hand over.

One pass produces the video, the written guide, and the share page.

The edited video

Zooms on your clicks, dead time compressed, mistakes cut, voiceover and word-by-word captions — 1080p.

Recording bar reading 'Recording screen 00:10' over a Google Slides deck, with the presenter's webcam in the corner of the slide

A written guide

The same steps, numbered, each with a screenshot from your recording. Print, paste, or publish.

A page of a generated guide: 'Step 01, Navigate to Mautomate', two numbered instructions and the step's screenshot, with a text formatting toolbar above it

A share page

Every render gets a page that plays the video — public, or unlisted for link-only access.

Share dialog with Public access switched on, 'Anyone with the link can view', a stepvideo share link and a Copy link button

Questions

stepvideo vs Storylane, asked plainly

Interactive demo or video — which do I actually need?

Rough rule: if the viewer's next action is to buy, a demo they drive lets them feel the product and usually wins. If the viewer's next action is to do the thing themselves in software they already have, a narrated video with zooms teaches it faster. Sales motion versus onboarding and support.

Does stepvideo do interactive demos?

No. The output is a rendered MP4, a written guide and a share page. If you need a clickable replica with lead capture and CRM integrations, that is a different product and Storylane is one of the serious ones.

Why is the price gap so large?

Because they are priced as sales tooling and we are priced as a content tool. Storylane's Starter is $50 a month for one seat, Growth $625 a month for five, on the pricing page we read on 11 September 2026. stepvideo Creator is $29 a month for 25 rendered AI video minutes, with a 10-day free trial with 5 AI minutes, no card. Neither number is wrong for what it buys.
