FAQ
We've put together the questions people ask most about stepvideo: recording, editing, the free trial, plans and billing.
If you have a question you can't find here, please contact us directly.
Contact usWhat do I need to record?
Chrome — and nothing else to install. stepvideo records the browser tab you pick and works out the steps from what happens in it. Add our free Chrome extension and it gets sharper: every click is captured exactly, so steps land on the moment you acted and zooms land on the control you touched.
How are AI minutes counted?
Against the recording you hand us, the moment the video is generated, rounded up to a tenth of a minute. Exporting it, re-exporting it at another quality and regenerating it cost nothing more. A translation is a new video and counts the same recording once more.
What happens if I flub a step?
Mark it while you're still recording and keep going — the marked take is cut from the finished video. If you'd rather redo just that one step instead of the whole run, Perfect Take (beta) re-records it in place.
Can I change the voiceover?
Yes. Each step gets its own generated script, and each one is editable. Rewrite the text and that step's voiceover and captions are regenerated — you don't re-record, and you don't touch the other steps.
Where does the finished video live?
Every render gets its own share page, which you can leave public or keep unlisted so only people with the link can open it. The MP4 has its captions burned in, so it plays anywhere.
What happens when the trial ends?
Your 10-day trial gives you 5 AI minutes, no card. Exports are watermarked and render on the draft profile. On day 10 the trial ends and exporting stops until you pick a plan — nothing charges automatically, because we never took a card. Nothing you've made is deleted, and a paid plan re-exports any of it without the watermark and at full quality.
When will my card be charged?
At checkout. Paid plans have no trial period, so the first payment is taken when you subscribe, then at the start of each month or year after that. The 10-day free trial never asks for a card, so it can never charge you.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every account starts with 10 days and 5 AI video minutes, no card. Exports are watermarked and render on the draft profile while you try it. When the trial ends, exporting stops until you pick a plan, and everything you made stays yours.
How much do I save with yearly billing?
About 34%. Creator is $228 a year against $29 a month, and Studio is $780 a year against $99 a month. A yearly plan is paid once, up front.
Can I change my plan later?
Yes, any time, from Billing in the app. Moving up takes effect straight away and you pay the prorated difference then. Moving down also takes effect straight away, and the unused part of the bigger plan is credited against your next renewal.
If I cancel, do I get a refund?
Cancel any time before your plan renews and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. A first subscription is refundable in full within 14 days if you've rendered fewer than 10 AI video minutes. Renewals aren't refunded automatically, but if one charged you by surprise, tell us within 14 days. The refund policy has the details.
How are payments made?
Through Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle takes the payment at checkout, sends your receipts and handles sales tax, and a refund goes back to the payment method you used.
What happens to minutes I don't use?
Each month's plan minutes stay usable for 3 months, so a quiet month isn't lost. Minutes from top-up packs never expire.
Are there any long-term contracts?
No. Monthly plans renew month to month and yearly plans year to year, and you can cancel either one before it renews.
